NEW COVID-19 CASES REMAIN UNDER 1 000 FOR SECOND DAY

New COVID-19 cases remained under 1 000 for a second day. 998 cases were recorded in the

past 24 hours. However, deaths increased to 263 from a low of 97.

Total confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1 505 586, whilst deaths are 49 413. Active cases dropped from 41 872 to 36 714.

The breakdown of new deaths are as follows:

  • Kwa-Zulu Natal – 60
  • Limpopo – 55
  • Eastern Cape – 51
  • Gauteng – 39
  • Western Cape – 28
  • Free State – 27
  • Northern Cape – 3

Vaccination Update

The number of health care workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol is 32 315 as of 6 pm 23 February 2021.
