CITY OF JOBURG MAJOR GOES INTO SELF ISOLATION AS SOUTH AFRICA REGISTERS 2 594 NEW COVID-19 CASES

City of Joburg Mayor, Geoffrey Makhubo is in self-isolation as a precautionary measure, after a case of COVID-19 was confirmed in his private office, according to a report by Iol.

The staff member in the mayor’s office is said to have tested positive for Covid-19 following a trip to the Western Cape for a funeral last week.

Mayor Makhubo has recently tested negative for Covid-19. However, according to the report, as a precautionary measure, the mayor has undergone yet another COVID-19 test and has decided to place himself under self-isolation until the results are released.  In addition, the entire staff in the executive mayor’s office have also undergone tests to determine their Covid-19 status.

South Africa registered 2 594 new COVID-19 cases overnight and 82 new deaths. The total cases now stand at 50 879, whilst deaths are 1 080.
