TWO DAY OLD BABY BECOMES YOUNGEST VICTIM OF COVID-19 IN SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa recorded its youngest Covid-19 death – a two day old baby. Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said the baby was born prematurely and had lung difficulties which required ventilation support immediately after birth. He explained that the mother had tested positive for COVID-19 and the baby subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 as well.

Dr Mkhize also announced the death of a health care worker in the Western Cape as being amongst the latest 27 deaths due to the virus. The 27 deaths increased the country’s death toll to 339.

As of today, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 18 003.
