SOUTH AFRICA EDGES CLOSER TO 400 000 COVID-19 CASES AS VACCINE HUMAN TRIALS BEGIN IN THE COUNTRY

COVID-19 cases increased by a further 8 170 in South Africa in the past 24 hours, taking the national total to 381 798.
 
This as the Humanitarian Newsletter reports that South Africa has joined other countries such as the UK and Brazil for COVID-19 vaccine human trials. The vaccine has been developed by the Oxford University’s Jenner Institute.
 
195 new COVID-19 related deaths have also been recorded since yesterday bringing the death toll to 5 368.
 
Globally, over 14.5 million people have been infected and over 607 000 have died.
