SA RECOVERY RATE RISES TO 71% BUT DEATHS CONTINUE TO CLIMB

Data released by the Minister of health Dr Zweli Mkhize shows that the number of people recovering from COVID-19 in South Africa is improving. 377 266 people have recovered from the virus, translating to a recovery rate of 71%.

On the other hand, the number of people who are dying from the virus continues to climb. The Minister has announced 414 new deaths that took place in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 9 298. The Eastern Cape leads with 135 deaths. It is followed by Free State with 122, Kwazulu Natal with 62, Gauteng with 45, Western Cape with 34 and Mpumalanga with 16.

Since Monday 1 145 people have died from COVID-19 related complications.

Meanwhile, new cases increased by 8 559 to reach a new total of 529 877.

Globally, 206 709 new cases have been reported. The total global infections are 18 1354 342. Deaths are 696 147.
