NEW DAILY COVID-19 CASES ON THE RISE

South Africa is seeing a rise in the daily number of COVID-19 cases. In the past 24 hours there were 2 888 new cases and 123 new deaths.

These new figures have pushed the national cases to 757 144 and total deaths to 20 556.

The Eastern Cape recorded the highest number of deaths with 35.

It was followed by the Free State and the North West with 31 respectively. Gauteng recorded 4, Kwa-Zulu Natal 3, Limpopo 7, and Western Cape 12.

The Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize has expressed concern about the rise in daily cases in the Eastern Cape.  “We are very concerned about the Eastern Cape numbers.” “The daily increases are higher than what we saw during the surge in July and August.”

Active cases in the Eastern Cape are 7 961. It is followed by the Free State with 7 746.
