94 PEOPLE DIE IN THE EASTERN CAPE & ALMOST 8 000 NEW COVID-19 CASES

170 people have died in the past 24 hours due to COVID-19 and 7 999 others contracted the disease. Of the 170 deaths, 94 were in the Eastern Cape. Other deaths recoded were as follows:

  • Western Cape 54
  • Free State 11
  • Gauteng 3
  • Kwa-Zulu Natal 4
  • Northern Cape 4

Total deaths to date are 23 276, whilst total confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic are – 860 964.

Current active cases are – 76 677 and the provinces driving the active cases are:

  • Western Cape – with 24 054 cases
  • Kwazulu – Natal – with 17 708 cases
  • Eastern Cape – with 16 287 cases
  • Gauteng – with 9 240 cases
