SA GET 4 621 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN 24 HOURS BRINGING NEW TOTAL TO 97 302

The Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize announced 4 621 new COVID-19 infections in South Africa in the last 24-hours, bringing the new total to 97 302.

Whilst the Western Cape continues to have the highest number of positive cases at 51 441, Gauteng has also seen an increase in cases and now stands at more than 20 000. The Northen Cape has maintained its position as the Province with the lowest cases.

The Minister also announced 53 new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total national deaths to 1 930. The Western Cape registered 27 deaths, Gauteng 8, Kwazulu Natal 1 and Eastern Cape 17.

50% of the deaths are of people between the ages of 50 to 69 years.

Meanwhile, 51 608 people have recovered, translating into a 53% recovery rate.
