The Gauteng Health MEC, Dr Bandile Masuku says the Province can expect 120 000 Covid-19 cases by the end of July.
In a report carried by News24, Dr Masuku said “Our predictions tell us that we will be reaching 120 000 by the end of July. We will be getting closer to 250 000 to 300 000 by August, September which is expected to be the peak, we will be having more than that,”
This as the country gets 8 124 new cases in the past 24 hours taking the national total to 159 333.
Gauteng registered 3 063 new cases in the past 24 hours, the highest 24 hour increase when compared to the other Provinces.
There were another new 92 COVID-19 related deaths, pushing the national death toll to 2 749. The breakdown is as follows:
- 17 from the Eastern Cape
- 28 from Gauteng
- 10 from the Kwazulu Natal
- 37 from the Western Cape.
Although the number of recoveries is 76 025, the recovery rate is slowing down. It now stands at 47, 7%.
