SOUTH AFRICA MOVES TO LEVEL 2 LOCKDOWN TODAY

From midnight today, South Africa moved into level 2 lockdown.

This as the COVID-19 infections continue although at a lower rate. The Department of Health reported 2 541 new infections in the past 24 hours as well as 143 new deaths.

As of today, there are 589 886 confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa and 11 982 deaths. Of the new deaths:

  • 50 were from Eastern Cape
  • 14 from Gauteng
  • 14 from Kwazulu-Natal
  • 3 from Northern Cape
  • 5 from Free State
  • 25 from Mpumalanga
  • 32 from Western Cape.

Authorities have encouraged South Africans to continue to wear masks, wash their hands and practice social distancing to avoid a new wave of the virus.

Globally, 250 285 new cases have been reported. Total global infections to date are 21 549 706. Deaths are 767 158.
