MINISTER OF HEALTH ENCOURAGED BY BREAKTHROUGH IN THERAPEUTIC TRIALS FOR COVID-19 MANAGEMENT

The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize says he is extremely excited and encouraged by an important breakthrough in COVID-19 therapeutics research trials.

The results of the trials show therapeutic positives or merits of low doses of Dexamethasone as extremely promising and are easily implementable in South Africa. According to Dr Mkhize, Dexamethasone is a well-known and widely used steroid that is used in allergic reactions, asthma and other conditions.

Latest Statistics

As of today, South Africa’s confirmed COVID-19 cases are 76 334 with 1 625 deaths. The Western Cape continues to lead all other provinces with more than 45 000 positive cases.

The Province also continues to lead with daily COVID-19 deaths. This time 44 of 57 COVID-19 relates deaths in the past 24 hours were from the Western Cape. The remaining deaths came from the Eastern Cape (9) and Kwazulu Natal (4).

Recoveries to date are 42 063, translating into a recovery rate of 55, 1%
