SOUTH AFRICA RECORDS 1 579 NEW COVID-19 CASES WHILST ACTIVE CASES ARE 56 440

South Africa recorded 1 579 new COVID-19 cases taking the national total 649 793 since the pandemic started. Current active cases are 56 440, according to the Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize.

Gauteng has 20 461 active cases, making it the highest Province with active cases. It is followed by the Frees State with 13 452 and KZN with 7 583. The Western Cape has 3 657, whilst the Province with the lowest active cases is Limpopo with 612.

Meanwhile, 20 new COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours taking the national death toll to 15 447.

  • 4 from KwaZulu-Natal
  • 6 from Gauteng
  • 4 from Eastern Cape
  • 6 from Western Cape.

Globally, 307 930 new cases have been reported. Total global infections to date are 28 637 952. Deaths are 917 417 since the beginning of the pandemic.
