SA COVID CASES INCREASE BY MORE THAN 6 000 IN 24 HOURS AS GAUTENG COVID-19 CASES REACH ALMOST 40 000

South Africa’s COVID-19 cases increased by 6 130 in 24 hours to reach a total of 144 264. Gauteng registered 2 946 new cases in 24 hours pushing its total 39 841, whilst Western Cape had 930 new cases taking its total to 61 375. The Eastern Cape has had 1 096 new cases to reach a total of 26 195.
 
There were 73 new deaths bringing the total death toll to 2 529. The Western Cape registered the highest daily deaths at 43, followed by Eastern Cape with 10. Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal both registered 6 deaths, whilst Limpopo had 5 and the Northen Cape had 2.
 
According to the data, 52, 5% of the dead are men whilst women account for 47, 4%.
 
The number of recoveries to date is 70 614, translating into a recovery rate of 48, 9%. This is lower when compared to previous weeks when the recovery rate was around 50%.
