In the past 24 hours 1 744 people contracted COVID-19. At the same time, 78 people died from the virus. This was an improvement when compared to the statistics of the past 48 hours – where 2 382 new cases and 151 deaths were recorded.
In addition, the country’s active cases are now 55 587.
The breakdown of new deaths are as follows:
- Gauteng – 37
- Western Cape – 15
- Free State – 10
- Mpumalanga – 9
- Kwa-Zulu Natal – 5
- Eastern Cape – 2
