SAMWUMED’s Maternity Programme helps expecting moms to receive the help they need to take better care of themselves and their unborn baby by taking advantage of a wide range of maternity preventative care and early detection benefits.

Maternity Benefit Options

Family

OPTION A

Paid from Risk.

Option A Benefits

  • Annual limit of R32,950 limit for Caesarean sections per family unless PMB level of care.
  • Folic acid and iron supplements support in the first trimester.
  • Up to eight midwife antenatal visits.
  • Two yearly 2D ultrasounds per person.
  • HIV Screening of first test per maternity event within 1st trimester (first three months).
  • One Pap Smear per beneficiary per year six weeks after birth (post-partum).
  • Baby bag with baby essentials for the newborn.
  • Four midwife postnatal appointments or at a network hospital with a network doctor
  • A six-week post-birth checkup

Conditions:

  • Mothers-to-be must register on the Scheme’s Maternity Programme within three months of pregnancy by calling 021 003 0256 or emailing Samwumed@Tshela.co.za.
  • They must use doctors and hospitals on the Scheme’s network to avoid a 25% co-payment fee.
  • Pre-authorisation is required for birth at a registered birthing facility for a natural delivery or with a midwife.

Option A for younger members and younger families offers more flexibility and peace of mind.
OPTION B
With Option B we make it possible for the main member to cover up to eight child dependents.
