170 people have died in the past 24 hours due to COVID-19 and 7 999 others contracted the disease. Of the 170 deaths, 94 were in the Eastern Cape. Other deaths recoded were as follows:
- Western Cape 54
- Free State 11
- Gauteng 3
- Kwa-Zulu Natal 4
- Northern Cape 4
Total deaths to date are 23 276, whilst total confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic are – 860 964.
Current active cases are – 76 677 and the provinces driving the active cases are:
- Western Cape – with 24 054 cases
- Kwazulu – Natal – with 17 708 cases
- Eastern Cape – with 16 287 cases
- Gauteng – with 9 240 cases
