2 563 people contracted the COVID-19 virus and 38 others died as a result of the virus in the past 24 hours. The new statistics pushed total COVID-19 cases to 787 702 and total deaths to 21 477.
Of the 38 new deaths, the Eastern Cape recorded the highest with 17. It was followed by the Western Cape with 13, Northern Cape with 7 and Gauteng with 1.
