1 364 people in the Eastern Cape contracted COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and 45 others died from the virus. The Province made up almost half of the 2 493 new cases and almost half of the 115 new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.
To date South Africa has 772 252 total confirmed COVID-19 cases and 21 083 total deaths related to the virus.
There are 34 725 active cases in the country and the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Free State account for the most active cases.
