South Africa recorded a low 1 633 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The country’s total cases since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 638 517.
However, deaths show no slowing down. The total deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is now 14 889. This follows 110 new deaths recorded in the past day.
The breakdown is as follows:
- 31 from KwaZulu-Natal
- 24 from Gauteng
- 7 from Eastern Cape
- 9 from Free State
- 1 from Western Cape
- 38 from Mpumalanga
563 891 people have recovered from the virus, translating to an 88% recovery rate.
Globally, 294 533 new cases have been reported. Total global infections to date are 26 763 217. Deaths are 876 616 since the beginning of the pandemic.
