Despite the country being under Level 2 lockdown, new COVID-19 infections are continuing. The latest data shows that another 3 880 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours. This follows 3 816 new cases a day ago. South Africa’s total cases now stand at 599 940.
Meanwhile, another 195 new COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 12 618. Of the new deaths, Gauteng recorded the highest number at 83. Other Provinces which recorded new deaths are:
- 26 from Eastern Cape
- 36 from Kwazulu-Natal
- 25 from Free State
- 12 from Limpopo
- 13 from Western Cape.
The recoveries now stand at 497 169 translating to a recovery rate of 82%.
Globally, 263 601 new cases have been reported. Total global infections to date are 22 256 220. Deaths are 782 456.
