We have all noted with concern, the alarming increase of COVID-19 infections as well as COVID-19 deaths in our country. As a Scheme we are with you, our members and your dependents during this trying and uncertain time.
We are happy to advise you that as a member of SAMWUMED, you and your dependents are covered for COVID-19 as a Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB). Meaning that this cover is over and above your normal benefits. And it does not matter whether you are on Option A or Option B.
Our COVID-19 cover includes all consultations, tests (negative and positive), hospitalisation including all complications and rehabilitation.
Having said that, prevention is better than cure. To borrow the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize’s words, we are heading into a “storm” and as South Africans we need to adopt all necessary behaviour changes that will keep us all safe.
In the main, older people are dying from the virus, but young people are also not safe from it. COVID-19 does not choose age, race or gender. All of us are at risk.
As members of SAMWUMED, we need to Team up to Beat COVID-19.
Although the lockdown levels have been relaxed, we cannot afford to be relaxed. I urge all of you our members to remain vigilant, and take all necessary steps to keep yourselves and your loved ones safe.
Please continue to practice good hygiene. Wash your hands regularly, sanitise your hands and your environment regularly, clean and sanitise all items that come into your homes and stay at home if you do not need to be outside.
Most importantly, continue wearing your masks properly and practice social distancing when you are in public places.
