End of SAMWUMED Curatorship

The Council for Medical Schemes today announced the lifting of Curatorship of SAMWUMED Medical Scheme. The lifting of the Curatorship took effect on 07 May 2020.

The Scheme was first placed under provisional Curatorship on 3 May 2018 due to governance issues at the time. In particular, an illegally constituted Board and infighting within SAMWU Union – both which negatively impacted on the viability and sustainability of the Scheme.

SAMWUMED is now on track.

It has addressed all the identified Curatorship issues and many others. For instance, the Scheme has a new Principal Officer, Ms. Francina Mosoeu as well as a full Board of Trustees.

Whilst the responsibility of the Principal Officer is to manage the executive and the day to day operations of the Scheme, the Board is responsible for maintaining sound corporate governance. The board members are: – Sharon Dube, Nandipha Bhozo, Lindani Sibiya, Mampho Marule, Nadine Simons, Mthokozisi Nzuza, Annah Ntuli, Benjamin Mdhluli, Ntombizodwa Priscilla Ntsuba, and Sipho Timothy Kwanyana.

Apart from addressing governance issues, SAMWUMED has put in place several strategies and initiatives which have restored stakeholder confidence, enhanced member service, engagement and stakeholder communication, ensured visibility of the brand and set the Scheme on a growth path.
