3 916 NEW COVID-19 CASES AND 159 NEW DEATHS IN PAST 24 HOURS

According to new data released by the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize, there were 3 916 new COVID-19 cases in South Africa in the past 24 hours taking the total cases to 596 060.

At the same time there were 159 new COVID-19 related deaths, taking the country’s death toll to 12 423. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 37 from Eastern Cape
  • 43 from Gauteng
  • 45 from KwaZulu-Natal
  • 5 from Free State
  • and 29 from Western Cape

The recovery rate is 82%, meaning more people are recovering from the virus. However, the Minister continues to advise South Africans not to be reckless. To wear masks, wash their hands and practice social distancing.

Globally, 213 391 new cases have been reported. Total global infections to date are 21 989 366. Deaths are 775 893.
