In the past 24 hours the number of people who contracted COVID-19 were 3 159. This is an increase when compared to the 1 742 of the previous reporting period. Meanwhile, 276 other people died from the virus in the past 24 hours.
Total confirmed cases in the country is now – 1 482 412, whilst total deaths to date are 47 145.
The breakdown of new deaths are as follows:
- Gauteng – 126
- Kwa-Zulu Natal – 34
- Eastern Cape – 33
- Western Cape – 31
- Mpumalanga – 21
- Free State – 20
- Northern Cape – 8
- Limpopo – 3
