A further 109 people died and another 2 295 were found to have contracted the COVID-19 virus in the past 24 hours. This brings total deaths since the start of the pandemic to 21 644 and total cases to 792 299.
Of the new deaths, the Eastern Cape recorded the highest number of deaths with 36. Other provinces that experienced deaths are:
- Free State – 12
- Gauteng – 5
- Kwa-Zulu Natal – 12
- North West – 17
- Western Cape – 27
Meanwhile, IOL has quoted the Western Cape Premier Alan Winde as having announced that the Provincial government is considering its own local intervention and restrictions to slow the spread of the coronavirus. “Our surveillance teams have traced many cluster outbreaks to indoor gatherings of people, as the virus spreads quicker in confined spaces when there is poor ventilation.”
