New COVID-19 cases shot up to 1 862 in the past 24 hours after being below 1 000 for two days.
During the same period 110 people died from the virus.
Total confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic now stand at 1 507 448, whilst deaths are 49 523. National active cases dropped further from 36 714 to 35 303.
The breakdown of new deaths are as follows:
- Free State – 61
- Western Cape – 17
- Gauteng – 12
- Kwa-Zulu Natal – 7
- Mpumalanga – 7
- Eastern Cape – 5
- Northern Cape –1
